Step 2: Choose your Doctor

This is an important step in choosing a plan

The doctor you choose is your Primary Care Provider (PCP). Your PCP looks out for your health and sees you when you are sick and for regular check-ups. If you need to see a specialist, your PCP will help you get that care. Once enrolled, you can change your PCP by calling your plan. Each family member may be in a different plan and may have a different PCP.

Ask yourself the following questions when deciding on a plan and a doctor:

Can the doctor I have now be my PCP?
(To find out, call the HelpLine at 1-888-367-6554.)

Is there a doctor that is close to my home?

What kind of doctor do I need - a pediatrician, a family doctor?

Can I find a doctor who speaks my language?

Do my family or friends have a PCP that they like?

Can a Federally Qualified Health Clinic be my PCP?
